This is the second time to compare foreign markets to Korean markets. Today, I’d like to introduce you Shilin Night Market in Taiwan and Pusan international Market in Korea.

 Because Taiwan is so humid and hot, there are lots of night markets in the country . Each city has at least 2-3 markets. Is it different from Korea? But, there is a common thing between two markets. That is the places where foreigners visit a lot.

International Market is located in Pusan, Korea. It has a sad historical story. 

After independence in1945, many Japanese gained one place to sold war supplies before leaving Korea. This is how the market was formed. After Korean war, refugees gathered and made the market activated more. Some products were smuggled through Pusan port and the products were spread throughout the country. 

There are lots of delicious foods, too. Fishcakes and Danpatjuk, sweet red-bean porridge with small rice dumplings! A row of food carts line the street!

Because Daegu is known for a region of delicious apple called Korean crab-apple, you can buy fresh apples at a low price there. There are some popular and old songs that everyone knows in Korea. Among them, ‘Bakdaljae crying over’ is related to the place where I’ll introduce today.

When you hear this song, you might feel so sad. Do you know the song has a sad story?

Long ago, a countryside scholar named Bakdal was on the way to Seoul to take Gwageo, the highest-level state examination to recruit ranking officials. Because it takes several days to get Seoul, he decided to stay in a village in Jecheon. He wanted to stay a farmer’s house and the farmer has beautiful daughter named Geumbong. As you can guess, Bakdal and Geumbong fell in love each other. However, he couldn’t help leaving the village to take a test.

He arrived Seoul, but he couldn’t concentrate his study and examination because of her. So, he failed the examination. So did Geumbong. She waited and prayed for him at the hill all day long, and as time went by, eventually she got tired of wating and died. She had already died when Bakdal returned to the village. He lost his composure and cried at the hill where she had waited for him. Suddenly, he saw the phantom of her and hugged. He died there, too. Because the place he stood was cliff. After that, people called this hill ‘Bakdaljae’.

Cheongpung lake was made by construction of Chungju dam in 1985. With the building of a dam, lots of villages in Jecheon, Dannyang and Chungju was submerged. Among them, villages in Jecheon take up more than 50%.

Cheongpung lake is so beautiful that lots of people call it ‘inland ocean’. Jecheon has become hot spot on the basis of superb natural landscape where tourists want to visit. It makes visitors peaceful.

Cheongpung Cultural Properities Complex is a rteconstruction of Cheongpung, a village that became submerged after the construction of Chungju Dam located above Chungju Lake. Especailly, SBS Jecheon Setting, co-located on the site of Cheongpung Cultural Properties Complex, recreates a historical Korean folk village used in the SBS produced TV mini-series “Daemang” and “Jang Gilsan”. Several other historical SBS TV productions were filmed on this set as well.

Said a baseball coach of Japanese team. Like his words there is an unique supporting method in Korea. Every teams are famous for their cheering, however, I wanna introduce Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan today to you guys.

We call someone who support Lotte Giants ‘Busan Seagull’. It is within bounds to say that their love for baseball and the team is the best in the world. Some major league experts in USA envy this enthusiasm. 

There are various supporting methods to do. Even some people visit the stadium to enjoy these. The main thing is that shaking torn newspapers like pompom and orange colored plastic bags. Doing so, they sing the main songs of Busan, ‘Busan gull’ and ‘Come back to Busan harbor’ Ex-coach of Lotte Giants admired it saying ‘the biggest karaoke in the world’ 

You’ll be hungry if you shake pompom and sing songs for the team.
