[Talk Talk Market] Pyeongtaek Central Market

Pyeongtaek Central Market

Talk Talk Market!
The place where I’ll introduce you today is a Pyeongteak central market located in gyungkido.

The market formed spontaneously in front of the military camp in 1958 with the construction of the US Air Base. The market developed with the increase in the number of dealers who got stuff in nearby Songbuk Market at cheap prices and sold it in front of the military camp. Since the market was targeted at the US military personnel in Korea, it has an exotic atmosphere and liveliness differentiated from other traditional markets.

The hobby shops, fashion accessory shops, multi-national restaurants and a multitude of bars and clubs create an impression of a shopping mall in the alley rather than a typical traditional market.

The floating population is composed of U.S. soldiers stationed in Korea and their families, Chinese tourists, multi-cultural foreigners of Philippine women and people from Europe and Russia, and Korean people who want to enjoy exotic cultures. So the East and the West are mingled in the market.
